About the Coalition4Youth

The Coalition4Youth was originally started in 1995 to encourage a range of agencies to "promote positive citizenship in young people by working with them, responding to their needs and encouraging their development".

A partnership was established between the public sector, voluntary organisations and the private sector to "create positive opportunities and initiatives for young people, to maximise the use of scarce resources, and to avoid duplication of effort".

In November 1999 Saskia Neary was employed as a Development Officer to breathe new life into the C4Y. Part of her work has involved working with a Strategy Board and Management Group to establish the C4Y’s Declaration of Purpose and underlying values and principles.

The Coalition4Youth is committed to respecting young people and their ability to inform and educate adults about their views, opinions and concerns. The underlying principles of the C4Y are that young people are able to define their own needs and concerns and how they think they should be met. The C4Y is therefore committed to finding ways of ensuring young people’s direct and active participation in decision-making affecting their lives and in developing and planning services that aim to meet young people’s needs.

C4Y is not an organisation it is a process driven by all of its partners and those who support it. It relies on the active involvement of all individuals. Groups, organisation and projects who are associated with the C4Y or committed to its aims.
